my itunes sees my ipod nano but will not sync my library to it

my itunes sees my ipod nano but will not sync my library to it. any suggestions ive tried diagnositcs and tried to sync it and the button is greyed out and i cant use it

Are there any error messages? Have you checked your sync selections? See Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer - Apple Support. Alternatively have you tried restoring the device?
