maps 'add stop' not going away

While on a route, I select to 'add a stop', I can select any of the categories, it lists and shows them on the map but if i don't choose any stop and and I select the 'x' to exit the 'stops' available menu, it still shows the stops that were just listed and it stays in a zoomed out view. No matter what I do from there it stays zoomed out and still shows the stops. The only way I have found to get rid of these is to 'end route' and get directions/begin the route to my original destination.
