Signature in Preview

I have the signature from my iPad showing up in a separate untitled Preview document with the markup tool bar showing. But when I go to copy, paste/drag/insert, nothing shows up in the document where I need the signature to appear. What is it I am not doing or what setting needs adjustment?

Try booting to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

A lot of times just boot to Safe Mode followed by normal boot resolves problems.

Your profile says you are on 12.0. The latest is 12.2.1 released Feb 10. Update if not already updated.

What do you mean "paste the signature into the Preview document, it disappeared. " When did it disappear? Some users have had problems annotations made in Preview disappear in that after saving, the annotations were not there after reopening the documents.

I do not fully understand what you are doing.

If you click on Signature in the markup menu in Preview you select Create Signature. There you can select how to create it. You

Create a signature using your iPhone or iPad: Click Select Device to choose a device (if more than one is available). On your device, use your finger or Apple Pencil (on iPad) to sign your name, then click Done. If you don’t like the results, click Clear, then try again.

However, I just tried and could not get my iPhone or iPad to show. In Phone you need iOS 13 or later.

I created the signature, it first by writing on a trackpad, then on-my iPad after selecting those choices from within Preview. When returning to the open Preview document on my desktop, the signature popped up on the screen as a separate jpeg file. When I tried to drag that file or copy and paste the signature into the Preview document, it disappeared. I verified both my iPad and the desktop are uptodate with iOS and OS.

I appreciate your willingness to help. However coming to this forum was a last resort after following the steps both within Preview and assistance I found on line. As I still have no digital signature, the help I need is to figure out why.

Hallelujah! It took installing the update, opening in safe mode, restarting it, and finally the clouds parted and lo and behold on my iPad was an actual white screen with a line across the bottom. Whew! Thank you! Got the signature and used it as needed in forms where I wanted it. Prior to that there was nothing on the iPad or the iPhone. I had no idea where I was supposed to "write my name."

Again, thank you.
