turbotax 2021 quits when trying to print

I have TT Deluxe for Mac 2021 on iMac w/ Monterey 12.2 and when I try to print my tax returns the app crashes and closes. I've tried the Save to PDF and no pdf is generated regardless of what folder I try to save it to. Preview also crashes and closes the app. I was on the phone for a couple of hours with TurboTax help and after we exhausted all their attempts to address the issue I was told it was a Apple issue. Suggestions?

Had the same problem. After spending 2.5 hours with TT Customer Support, still didn't have a solution that worked; that is until I read your response. The organization of my application folder was my downfall. I had all my previous TT versions stored in a sub-folder. I placed TT2021 there too. Everything worked except for printing and saving as a PDF. Following your suggestion I moved TT2021 out of the sub-folder and back into the Applications folder.

Everything works ... Thank you, Tim!

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

This is the second or third year I've had this issue, since I switched to the cloud. For me, this was the issue. I filed, and came back to this now to deal with.

My fix - Under File drop dow n >>> Save as pdf, >>> choose a non cloud destination (I used the downloads folder) The pdf was created. Then drag and drop where you like. Next year I will do the online version. Thanks to Apple support for the assist, it took both of us!

OK, the comment about fonts rings a bell. I had that problem years ago in Windows XP I think. I don't recall the exact fix, but I do recall it was incredibly simple to do.

My suggestion is to search on "TurboTax font related printing problems" or similar and call Intuit too. But this is DO remember as being a problem.

+1 also

I just finished my taxes and printed with no issues on my iMac24 with Monterey.

Though I will say that Turbotax seemed a bit more buggy this year. I got into a few "endless loops" and it made some mistakes on my return that the "smart scan" or whatever it is caught (Mainly it gave me $300 instead of $600 for my charitable contribution deduction even though I am married, filing jointly.)
