Seems the scan function no longer shows up for this printer HP Photosmart D110. Works fine on my 2012 MacBook Pro running Mojave. Have tried removing the printer is system preferences and re-adding it. OS has latest update.

The printer model is approximately ten years old. HP last updated the driver in 2014 for macOS Sierra 10.12.x. Apple doesn't support their own hardware past the seven year mark. HP no longer supports it.
How about opening /Applications/Image Capture can it see the scanner? If not, then the VueScan venerable scanner software application will work with it. VueScan has the absolute best scanner support for many scanners whose manufacturers have abandoned support. I found your model printer listed as "supported".

Try installing HP Smart in the App Store. It will help setup the software drivers.
Open Preferences -> Printers & Scanners
Select the "scan" tab. Does anything work/display there?

Yup, guess I'll just use my wife's MacBook Pro for scanning. Print functions work, just not the scanner option. Scan doesn't show up no matter what I try.
