M1 Max Macbook Pro Touch ID not (always) working

This isn't so much a question as it is sharing experience.

The touch ID on my 2021 14" Macbook Pro (Monterey 12.2) sometimes doesn't work at all (touch and touch and nothing happens), or works on the third or tenth try.

I took it into the Geniuses, and of course, it worked perfectly and passed all the diagnostics. Brought it home, and it worked... but after a while it quit working again.

What I discovered is when the battery drops below about 50%, touch ID stops working. Plugging in the power brick (not powered by USB-C) will instantly restore touch ID functionality.

I don't know if my touch ID module is bad or not, replacing it will require sending the machine in for a week to have the module replaced. But at least there's a workaround.

Does anyone else have issues with touch ID when the battery is not full and the power adapter isn't connected? I'm wondering if it's worth the bother getting the module replaced. Thanks!

UPDATE: this may be related to having a power supply connected via USBC. Unplugging that seems to remove the requirement to have the MagSafe power connected.

There was some known issues:

Charging issue —

16-inch MacBook Pro and the 140-watt power adapter, the problem occurs when the MacBook Pro is shut down and then the MagSafe power adapter is connected—a work a round is to plug in the MagSafe adapter before shutting down or putting the MacBook to sleep.

The other known work a round is use the USBC charging cable directly
