A few weeks ago, my laptop was prompting me to update the system software from macOS Big Sur to Monterrey. But, now, there's no prompt, and no matter how many times I try to update it, the option to update won't come back.

I cannot update my laptop from macOS Big Sur to Monterrey.

What is the exact model of your laptop? You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac".


I have seen two threads where users were reporting that macOS was suggesting an upgrade to Monterey even when they had laptops from 2013 or 2014 which are not compatible with Monterey. If you have an older Mac, then perhaps you were encountering this issue and perhaps Apple has since resolved it so people are no longer seeing the incorrect upgrade suggestion. Here is an Apple article with a list of Macs which are compatible with macOS 12.x Monterey:
