Screen recording is not working in Monterey

Hello,

I Just upgraded from Catalina to Monterey.

Screen recording is not working anymore.

I Press cmd+shift+5, I press Record. Is just turns off. I dont even see in touchbar the screen recording starting. Nothing happens.

If I try to open Quicktime and try screen recording, i get a error saying an erro was found "try to use screen recorder".

So, I have to go to app's like Screenflow to record. But for quick things, i dont want to.

What can I do?

Before the update to Monterey, was working perfectly.

Im using Macbook pro 16" 2020.

It appears that you're having a problem recording the screen of your Mac after upgrading from macOS Catalina to macOS Monterey. The toolbar to start recording doesn't show, and we're glad to provide assistance.


How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support -- See if you're able to record the screen after restarting your Mac in safe mode. If it works, restart your Mac normally and test the issue again. Please be aware: "When you start up in safe mode, your Mac prevents some software, such as startup items, from loading, and it performs a check of your startup disk. Your Mac may take longer to start up because of the check."


New user or group setup - Apple Support -- If you can't record the screen of your Mac in safe mode, or restarting it normally it didn't work as expected, create a new Administrator account. See if screen recording works there.

So I went to safe mode and problem remains. I found that it works if I change audio options and choose NO MICROPHONE.

But, if I choose to use macbook pro microphone, when it start recording, the app just terminate.


What should I do from here? I can use the microphone with other apps to record, I dont get any malfunction.

I had this same issue and was able to figure it out. As with you, I could only record without an audio input. I normally use Loopback for my audio capture source, and when I selected it I couldn't record at all. However, I found that after I gave Loopback screen recording permission in security and privacy preferences I could record without issue. For some reason, this also fixed the issue for my Macbook's microphone as well.


Hopefully if you give whatever audio capture source you're using screen recording permission it will start working again.
