What is a black arrow on the upper left On the homepage

You can open Settings ➡️ Privacy ➡️ Location Services: Here you will see all the apps that are set up to use your location. All the way in the bottom you should read the legend that describes various colors of that "Arrow" that you were referring to.

It is a location service indicator. When that Arrow is filled in (not hollow) then a process or an app is requesting your location.
