Purchased my first iPad this week. Set up went well. used off and on all day. last night went to sign on and my password was not accepted. Now, after several attempts last night and a few this morning, I have the following message" iPad is disabled. Try again in 49 minutes."

You can wait 49 minutes and try again (if you get the password wrong again though, it will disable for a longer time - eventually it will disable with a massive timeout of many years, effectively forever).

Or, you can erase it by restoring it, which resets the screen lock passcode so you can set up the device as new and enter a new screen lock passcode. See this support page for instructions -> If you forgot your iPad passcode - Apple Support
