Sound Pending--how to unfreeze it on iPhone 8

iPhone 8 and Air Pods 2d generation. I went to "Find My" (misplaced airpods in house) and "sound pending" came up and has hung now for the last two full days. In the meantime I've found the Airpods, but Find Me is still telling me it's looking. I never did hear a sound, and the Find My never seemed to locate the airpods, which were in their case that was in a jacket pocket hanging on a nearby hook. What do I need to do to unfreeze the app and to make it useful?

If you have not tried already, please Restart your iPhone and your AirPods. Does this help to resolve the issue? Often this simple step will refresh the apps and software on the device to solve numerous problems you may encounter.

If the issue persists, restart your AirPods. If that fails, unpair the AirPods with your iPhone, and re-pair them. Here's a guide to help: Restart or unpair AirPods with iPhone.

Is your iOS software up-to-date? If not, create a backup of your iPhone, then update the software. Here's how:

If you've followed all these steps and still have an issue, you'll want to Contact Apple for support and service.

Take care!
