Jack-19 Problem Restarting after Migration

Jack

I have almost made it through "How to Setup and Use an External SSD as your Startup Disk on a Desktop Mac.

Question 1

I am on "Startup Disk Preference"

I have changed the disk start-up to my new SSD and I am trying to re-start.

But I have a program which is open and it will not close so that I can restart.

(Note, this is a problem program that is always a pain in the neck. It will be my next item to fix).

Is it ok to force a shutdown and restart the computer???

Question 2

I have a message that my time machine has been trying to back up and it can't. Maybe when I restart the computer, it will work.

Force Quit the App giving you trouble then try again: How to force an app to quit on your Mac - Apple Support.

I would try again after the restart.

Almost there...

I think I should know how to do the following but I am so close to finishing, I don't dare try to do it on my own.

My old startup disk on my computer is named Macintoh HD.

My new startup disk on my computer is named Macintoh HD.

My Time Machine will not backup because of the same name.

How do I change the name of the old hard drive?

Thank you.
