Monterey bug? System voice reads everything aloud, except for reminders.

On all my Mac(book)s, I set the system voice to read notifications and announcements,

with a custom "Hey!" prefix.

On my new M1 Max, the only system with Monterey, that also works.

"Anna", the system voice, reads everything aloud.

Calendar entries, error messages, pop-ups - yes, even compiler errors.

Except for the content of reminders.

Whenever a reminder notifications or multiple of them pop up,

Anna only says "Hey!", but does not read the contents.

So, if I power on this machine and 10 reminder notifications

pop up, Anna just reads "Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! ... Hey!", but not

the content, as usual.

Setup is correct, I already tried to do the usually stupid

"disable, reboot, re-enable" sequences in multiple orders.

Nope. Seems to be broken - at least for me.

Ideas on how to fix this?

Safe mode disables the audio driver; this cannot work at all.

This also does happen with a fresh user account, yes.

Also can confirm this behavior on a Mac Pro; the 2nd machine with Monterey.

Still working on all the other Big Sur Macs.

Filed a bug report.

Must be super annoying to blind and sight-impaired people, as

they now additionally need to "voice over" all the overlapping

notifications.

Just in case:

No, I will not sign out of and back in to iCloud :)

.DS_Store,

You mentioned signing out and in to your iCloud account. Are you having an issue with iCloud and your Reminders?

Let’s isolate a couple more things. You mentioned having things set up to start with ‘Hey!’. Does that change at all if you use the application name for the phrase?

Is there any similarity in your reminders or if they are all different is the behavior the same? For example, location based (which would be more if they were set up from an iOS device typically), time based, today, scheduled, in different lists or the same list, etc?

Thank you.

Neither changing the prefix to the name of the program nor any

other available option changes this behavior.

Sorting or grouping doesn't affect this either.

Also, as mentioned in the first post, it is still all working for

all other applications and system messages. Exclusively notifications

from the Reminders app are affected.

I do not use location based reminders.

The rest is a mix of everything. Time based, without time; and this

also happens across all lists.

It's a bug ...

[And from all the things we learned from Apple the last, past decades -

it will most likely not get fixed.]

But I am happy for every available workaround which fixes this :)
