I went through (rather quickly) ALL of the posts and nobody said anything about what I'm going to say:

Go to:

1) Settings

2) Screen Time

3) (child account)

4) Downtime

5) type in your code

6) Set a schedule and at the bottom, click "Block at Downtime"

This will ensure that your child cannot ask for more time

You can also go to:

1) Settings

2) Screen Time

3) (child account)

4) App Limits

5) Add Limit

6) Select ALL (or certain apps) you'd like to limit

7) Tap Next

8) Set the Time Limit

9) Make sure "Black at End of Limit" is selected

10) Click Add

This will ensure that your child cannot ask for more time.

Hopefully this helps.

I have been really frustrated that my son has been able to view his phone for one more minute, after I have activated downtime.

I have finally found a work around and now reduce the age restriction of the apps he has access to. This means when I block his phone he can no longer get onto his favourites Snapchat and Tik Tok (over 12s). I realise he can still access some apps but I feel I am now able to use the parental control to reinforce good behaviours, more effectively. I hope this is helpful.

Follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
  • Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions and enter your Screen Time passcode.
  • Tap Content Restrictions, then tap Web Content.
  • Choose Unrestricted Access, Limit Adult Websites, or Allowed Websites Only.

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod ...

You may have to set Screen Time Passcode correctly.

OK so this is what we did - mileage may vary - good luck.

many of the choices/ticks/ are counter-intuitive (which means the UI is wrong)

Go into ScreenTime -> Select 'App Limits'-> delete whatever you had there, so it's blank.*

Go into ScreenTime -> Select Content and Privacy.. -> iTunes and app Store ..-> Make sure Don't Allow is selected for all.*

Go into ScreenTime -> Downtime -> Tick schedule-> To allow access from 4-6pm - you block the opposite -> which is From 6pm->4pm ( an "Allow" option here would be far more intuitive) -> set Days-> Tick Block at Downtime

  • if there's a limit it can be extended
  • if an app is deleted then re-installed, the o/s deletes the Screentime setting.

Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Product Feedback - Apple

Note that, though they read all of the feedback, they don't respond so you're not going to get any answer as to whether or not they have plans to change this in the next update. However, the more people who give them feedback, the more likely the situation is to change.

This doesn’t quite get to the solution.

Having set all the App and Time restrictions, a teenage child is still willing to use the “one more minute” option over and over again which makes the screen restrictions a mere inconvenience to them.

Parents need a way to fully disable the device during restricted screen time. I would prefer that the “ one more minute” option was fully disabled.

Me too, one more minute is RIDICULOUS! Apple please sort this out. All this effort to manage screen time and then kids can just use one more minute over and over again, and they do. It’s such a massive oversight. I’m going to have to switch to Android if this doesn’t get sorted out, and I know so many parents who are thinking about doing the same.

Lots of bugs in screen time. My children have found out they can continue to watch saved videos in camera roll by adding them to a messege thread to either parent and watching but not sending. Can also go into settings storage review large attachments and watch camera roll items there. Also can go into camera and click the small thumbnail on bottom and view entire camera roll. Kids are smart but these back doors keep them awake at night playing on phones. Only solution is to have it be charged in common area and not bedrooms
