Proof of purchase

Hi, if an authorized reseller is selling me an open-box macbook, used to shelf display, in a deal. But the deal seems to be because they forgot the apple ID and the password linked to the device, and the device is locked in the activation screen.

My question is, can i use the receipt they will give me as a legit "proof of purchase", and ask Apple Support to help me to unlock it? Thanks.
