Hi,

It may be hardware issue, try to check your MacBook Pro with Apple Diagnostics if it reports display or graphic related error(VFD001 to VFD007).

Looks like a GPU failure which tends to be common with the older 15" & 17" models from 2007 to 2013 (even a few 2014/2015 models may even have the failure to a lesser extent). If you have an older 15" or 17" model, then you can try forcing the laptop to use the Intel GPU instead of the discrete GPU using the gfxCardStatus app:
