imac 2008 black screen

i have an old imac 2008 running yosemite. The screen won't boot up but I can feel it running. I did the reboot but the screen is still black. Is there any way I can hook up a monitor to it so I can access and backup my data? i don't have a 16pin cable as needed (as seen on the right)

Hi tri_macpc,

It seems you need help with connecting your Mac to a monitor and we can help.

Check out the technical specifications here:

iMac (Early 2008)

If this is your iMac, you'll need to connect the Mini-DVI port to your monitor.

DVI is compatible with HDMI, so if your monitory has DVI or HDMI, you can get a Mini-DVI adapter to accommodate that connection.

Let us know if that helps.
