Music is skipping ahead halfway through songs.

Why is Music skipping ahead halfway through songs? it happens all the time now. on my phone, on my computer, on my home pod. And nothing anybody has suggested is the problem: login refresh, reboot, internet speed (I have gig speed.) There's something wrong with the software and it seems to date (based on this forum) to at least 2003!!!!

Hi Edward Devlin1,

We understand you're running into problems with the Music app skipping songs, and we'd like to help out. To clarify, is this happening with songs that are being streamed over an internet connection, or songs that have been downloaded directly to your iPhone or computer? If it's happening with downloaded songs, does the behavior continue if you remove the song and download it again? Also, does the behavior happen when your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi, or when it's using cellular data? These details will help us better isolate the problem and develop our next steps.

All the best.

Hi Edward Devlin1,

Got it! From what you're describing, it sounds like there could be a few things going on. Let's start with the iPhone first. When you're listening to downloaded music on the iPhone, is it playing through the speaker on the iPhone, or do you have the iPhone connected to a Bluetooth device like headphones or a speaker? If the problem only happens with the iPhone while it's connected to Bluetooth, that could point toward Bluetooth interference as shown here: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

Let us know what you find, we're here for you!

Have a great day.

Hi Amanda239_91,

This is on Macs, iPhones and HomePods.

I Have a music subscription and use it daily. I generally do not listen to music on my iPhone that is not downloaded, because the experience of streaming on the iPhone leaves a lot to be desired. My Computer is hard wired to the router and this is where I experience the issue most. (the vast majority of my listening is through the Mac)

so to answer your questions : mostly streaming on a Mac over a hard wired internet connection (gig speed) But occasionally on an iPhone that has downloaded the music, and on a HomePod which is connected through wifi. I never use cellular data on my iPhone for streaming music, as the device routinely blows through gigabytes of data consumption in the background despite being set to not use cellular, or update in the background at all.

in short: there's something wrong with the desktop version of Music.app. And I would really love it if it stopped canceling my groove right in the middle.

Hi Amanda239_91,

I would really rather get the Mac sorted out first. That's where the bulk of my listening happens. And it's resources are EXTENSIVE. We can pretty much start with: There's either a bug in Apple Music, or some kind of routine service interruption, and we can just skip the red herrings of bluetooth, or wifi, or meager system resources.

This just started doing this to me yesterday. I play music directly off of my hard drive. It skips halfway through a song, but I can go forward past it on the slider bar and it will play the rest of the music. I doesn't do it on every song, but it will consistently do it on most of them now. I've cleared my cache and don't have a storage issue, so it isn't that.
