I want to upgrade my iMac 7, 1 OS system. I saw on a previous post to increase the RAM first. I can do that. After I add that how what will be the highest OS system I can add to it?
I work and go to school. There is no way I can buy a new desktop.

Maybe, to be honest a iMac 7.1 should have been retired years ago. By current standards it is obsolete and many applications will not run anymore on El Capitan. Please consider replacing it sooner than later with a more up-to-date Mac.

Yes. If desired, use a product such as Firefox for websites which won't work with Safari in El Capitan.
