People labels gone AGAIN in photos

Why do my people labels keep disappearing in Photos? The upgrade to Monterey wiped out thousands of people labels. These are people that are labeled as favorites, but now are once again unnamed.

"Confirm additional photos" is useless, and picks up a few dozen at most. This seems to happen every time there is any kind of OS upgrade.

The last time I corrected all of the unnamed faces (took a long time, I have 33,000+ photos) I also added keywords with people's names. Today I created a smart album for my son with these parameters: Keyword is Ryan, Person does not include Ryan James Johnson. 799 photos showed up with those parameters!!! 799 photos that were previously labeled, but now have "unnamed" labels or no face recognition at all!!

Can you tell I'm frustrated?

Any solutions?

A system upgrade frequently includes an improved face detection and face recognition. Give your Mac a few weeks to scan the faces again after a system upgrade. One et all faces have been scanned again, you should only have to deal with faces that have been detected in a slightly shifted location, faces that have not been found previously by Photos and now have been detected, or faces that can no longer be detected by the improved algorithm.

After the Monterey upgrade I found that Photos could now detect many additional faces that previously have been missing and where I had to add manually faces circles. For these faces I had to enter a name for the new faces circle added by photos and to remove my older manually added faces circle.

Since I have to recheck the named faces at least once a year, I am taking the precaution to add the n name of a person as a keyword to all photos showing this person. I started this when I first upgraded from iPhoto to Aperture and kept it up when I moved from Aperture to Photos. The keywords can be used to compare the named faces with smart albums to the keywords, and they are also embedded into the photo, when I export the photos from Photos. I am frustrated with this as well. I agree with what someone said below about creating keywords for the people. I now do this whenever I'm dealing with faces or tagging lots of photos. Then I have some smart albums that show me when a face disappears. The one to show me photos that have faces removed is show me photos with keyword X but not face X. I get a couple a day (have huge library) and I manually correct them. I also have a smart album that shows me face X but not keyword X that I check to make sure I have added the keyword to the face.

It's a real pain and I only do it for my most important faces as it's just way too time consuming otherwise. I wish I could trust that Photos won't lose faces, but that's not the case. At least with keywords, I can keep on top of it.

I would love to hear from support if you ever contact them to find out how to solve this problem.
