Apple tv 2 gen

The 2nd gen has not received an update since 2014, and is not capable of running TVOS. It is also classified as obsolete (the unit itself is well over 11 years old) so there wouldn't be any further updates and any issues encountered would not be supported. It also doesn't run native apps, and many providers have been pulling support for the channels that do run on that model. I would have to echo the above sentiment that upgrading is the best bet (a used 4th gen could be found for a good price and is going to be a much better experience).

To the best of my knowledge, AppleTV Gen 2 is very significantly past TVOS version support. I would categorize AppleTV Gen 2 interoperation functionality with other up to date 2022 OS Apple devices to be a 'best effort' -- meaning if it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't.

Maybe someone else can give you a better answer and some troubleshooting steps to take. However, the only advice I can offer -- other than use the physical remote control -- is to look at upgrading your AppleTV..

Thanks Vazandrew, I have zero experience on the old AppleTVs and didn't know "TVOS" is an OS that only applies to the recent AppleTVs (I'm assuming AppleTV HD and above). Much appreciate sharing the knowledge point.
