Photos removing face tags

Has anyone had problems with Photos removing the face tags for people? I had suspected this was happening as there were photos I know I named the face for my children that weren't showing up when I searched.

So, to prove this, I added a keyword for each of my kids where their faces were tagged. Then I created a smart album to show me any photos that had a keyword of my child and didn't have their face. Last night, that smart album was empty. This morning I woke up and there are 48 pictures in the smart album. This proves to me that photos is somehow removing my face tags.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if they have any suggestions? I do use iCloud Photo library so I don't know if somehow that is causing an issue. I'm not sure how to trouble shoot that though.

I'm on Monterey version 12.0.1 if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance!!

I am finding many faces missing after each major system upgrade. The system upgrades will usually install new, improved software for the face detection and face recognition, and this may cause photos to find faces, that could not automatically be detected by the earlier versions. This newly detected faces may be in conflict with the faces we added manually.

Or the face may have been slightly shifted by the new face detection, and then Photos will wait for a confirmation. Have you tried to run the "confirm additional faces" dialog for the albums of your children?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have tried the confirm additional faces and it will find a couple, but usually it doesn't detect any new faces. The other weird thing is that no matter what photo I set as the key photo for their face, Photos keeps resetting the key face. It only seems to be happening with my kids' faces though.

I have seen times where there is a new face added, probably after an upgrade, as it's a photo that originally didn't detect a face and I manually added one. But it shouldn't overwrite the face I manually put in. It should just create another face.
