CalDigit TS3+ Won't Recognize USB Devices Or Ethernet With Dock Reconnect After MacBook Air Sleep

I have had my MB Air and CalDigit TS3+ for about 18 months. For most of this time I have used the MBA as a "desktop". That is, connected to the dock and an external monitor, Ethernet and various USB peripherals most of the time.

Recently I have had the need to use my 2020 MB Air disconnected from the dock and found that the MBA will not recognize the Ethernet and various USB devices upon being reconnected to the dock IF and ONLY IF the MB Air has been put into sleep mode.

This seems to have been a problem since the Fall of 2020 as documented in this thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251654275?answerId=253373365022#253373365022

But apparently nothing has been done to fix the problem. This is really unconscionable since the CalDigit TS3+ dock was sold by Apple on its own web site.

I have been an Apple user since my first Mac 128K in 1984 am becoming more and more disappointed and disillusioned with the company and its products as so many things like this "just don't work". The latest Catalina security update caused a problem that auto logged out any user account on my MBA and required a reinstall of macOS. The "Digital Crown" on my less than 3 year old Apple watch Series 3 has become intermittent.

I'm posting this hoping that Apple will see this and take some action to fix the problem with the CalDigit TS3+ and the 2020 MBA and also the 2020 MBP, as detailed in the link above.

My MB Air is running Catalina 10.15.7 WITHOUT the latest security update.

The CalDigit TS3+ has firmware version 44.1, which is the latest available

Perhaps so, BUT, in the response below that I received from CalDigit, this issue has existed since Mojave and is still a problem even for the most recent M1 Macs. So, it seems that updating to the latest macOS wouldn't necessarily fix the problem. As I mentioned previously, it's really disappointing that an issue that has existed for so long has not yet been fixed.

Taking what you and the others on the thread into consideration, it seems that this is an extension of a recurring wake-from-sleep issue that has been persistent on MacOS version past Mojave. The issue seems to strike most prevalently on monitors, but it has also surfaced for other kinds of devices on Apple computers with affected Operating Systems that are detected through a single Thunderbolt port on the computer. While the issues were mitigated by the later Intel chips and the ability to perform SMC and NVRAM resets on them, which would often help, they recurred fairly strongly on the new M1 architecture. The original M1 seems most strongly affected, with M1 Pro and M1 Max still seeing the issue but having it confined mostly to external monitors. We have made Apple aware of they issue and they have acknowledged, saying they are working on a solution with information we have provided them, but we have not had a status report available on the progress.

Appreciate you taking the time to reply, however, if you read through the forum thread I referenced, you'll find that the CalDigit TS3+ had the same firmware version back in the Fall of 2020. In addition, one poster states that he has multiple Thunderbolt docks and the problem exists with all of them. So, this clearly seems to be a problem with Catalina that has existed for more than a year and a half.

If Catalina wasn't still being supported by Apple, I wouldn't expect them to fix the problem, but it is still being supported. While I could install a newer version of macOS, I don't want to at this point, and, there are no assurances that the problem would be fixed in in a newer version of the OS.

I have e-mailed CalDigit and asked them to look into this issue and work with Apple to solve this problem. But I'm not holding my breath.
