Final Cut Pro X 10.6.1 (as of 15th Feb 2022) keeps crashing upon opening on my MacBook Pro 2017 15" (macOS Monterey 12.2.1 (21D62) ) (Invalid libcrypto dylib)

Hi guys,

As the title suggest, my FCP (surprisingly just my FCP X) keeps crashing upon opening. Haven't even reached the opening screen.

Probably got to do with the following reason:

Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)

Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000

Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

Application Specific Information:

abort() called

Invalid dylib load. Clients should not load the unversioned libcrypto

dylib as it does not have a stable ABI.

I've attached my Etrecheck report in this question.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)

Monterey 12.2.1 (As of 15th Feb 2022)

Any suggestions, from reinstalling to any other ways would be greatly appreciated :)

Thank youuu :)

Honestly, I think you should completely rebuild this system. There is software from the early part of the century that doesn’t even work anymore. That’s some LaCie that I have no idea what it’s doing. And there’s the dreaded keystone launch daemons. You’ve apparently been updating systems on top of each other for years. I would recommend you back up your system with Time Machine or a clone. Wipe the system drive. Reinstall the OS and migrate only the users, nothing else, no applications, no settings. Then install the applications you need and are using. No plugins until you verify the applications work, and do not install Chrome or any antivirus software.

Hi Tom,

Thank you so much for the help. I understand what you've suggested to me would be the best, clean slated solution for it.

But, because this is my office's work laptop, I don't think I can do much other than reinstalling or try other simpler solutions that doesn't involve overhauling the device. And I'll be honest, I only use 20-30% of the apps such as Adobe, FCP, & video players & converters.

Till this day, I'm not sure why the FCP worked before for a short while with Monterey before it keeps crashing.

Is there an alternative solution - aside from reinstalling - that I can try that /may/ work?

Again, really appreciate the help.

Thanks Tom!
