Swapping Existing SSHD to different device?

Hello,

long story short but my iCloud account was compromised and a lock put on my 2011 MacBook Pro. I have changed passwords etc.

I took it to Apple today and they have said there is also a firmware lock on the device and as I do not have the original proof of purchase ( I bought it from a reseller in 2011) they won’t remove this lock and my MacBook is now redundant.

I upgraded the hard drive to a 1TB SSHD a few years ago.

My question is if I were to buy a similar aged MacBook could I swap my Hard Drive to it or is the content on it locked too? Another thought I had was to try on an external USB converter and boot a 2011 iMac we have from that?

The aim would be to to a full time machine back up from the SSHD before buy a new MacBook and reinstalling it to that.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

The firmware lock is on the Logic Board of the laptop.

You can move the drive to another Mac to access the data. Whether you can boot that drive on another model Mac depends on several factors such as how the OS was originally installed on the drive and whether the Mac you are getting is newer than the older locked Mac.

You can install the drive into a USB to SATA Adapter, drive dock, or enclosure and connect the drive externally to another Mac to access the data on the drive.
