iOS 15.3.1 battery drain by apps that use Bluetooth for Phone Key feature (Tesla, Proxy, Kwikset)

Since upgrading to iOS 15.3.1, I've noticed my iPhone 13 gets hot even when I'm not using it and the battery drains quickly. Settings - Battery shows the phone is having significant background activities (50+ minutes per hour), and they are mostly by apps that use my iPhone as a key using Bluetooth. Tesla app uses my phone's Bluetooth to unlock my car when I'm near the car. Proxy app works as a key to my office. Kwikset app uses Bluetooth to connect to my Kwikset door lock. I deleted and reinstalled these apps, but that didn't fix. Anyone else having these problems?

Same here. Since the update, the phone lags (safari, Siri, etc. ). Battery drains in about 1 to 3h in idle (after a forced reboot). Video calls is draining battery like crazy, the phone doesn’t not charge anymore during video calls when plugged on external battery and barely maintain its level when plugged on wall charger. The day before the upgrade I could do 3h of TEAMS calls with video on a full charge, and be left with at least 30% battery at the end, the day of the upgrade, a TEAMS call with video drains the entire battery in 15 to 20min. The battery health states 100% healthy. There is definitively a bug on the 15.3.1 upgrade. I lost 6% while typing this message and I only have chrome browser open to type this message!

Apple please fix, the phone is technically unusable at the moment.

Yep, the first 4 days after the update were insanely unusable. Some Apple articles claim “the phone is doing a lot of re-indexing after the update”. I told myself, ok, fine, I will be patient. And it did seem to improve after a week. Maybe the new AI algo have scanned the 12000 photos and classified/tags stuff. I thought I was off the hook. But no, still a nightmare! Yesterday 20min of use of the phone outlook/teams/OneDrive (recently all updated by Microsoft) and the battery lost 92%. And I give an exemple with Microsoft apps, but it is the same from time to time with Apple application, like FaceTime. I wonder if Apple really screwed the low level layer of the OS and oversampling hardware sensors (camera, gps, motion sensors, etc).

results: unusable product !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

please fix it ASAP

Its not just with the tesla app, i have an iphone 12 pro, ever since i upgraded it to ios 15.3.1 i have been facing the same issue with overall batter drain, the system is consuming way more battery life than usual whilst sitting idle. Its not an issue with the apps, its must be a fault in the new software. The performance overall is fantastic, there are many minor issues fixed in the latest update such as lags in safari or lags in the app store and various small bugs, but with the compromise of battery life which is not good, please take this issue into consideration. Thank you

I’m having the same issue. I have a iPhone 13 Pro. It’s 4 months old. Called support, they ran diagnostics and told me to go into the Apple store. Drove an hour, waited 30 minutes for an available tech and then they said it’s a software issue. They told me I’d have to reset my phone to factory and try again. Still a problem. It gets below 75% and then just shuts off. When I turn it back on immediately, it shows 10% battery and cuts off again. This started immediately following the 15.1.3 update I just did yesterday. This is ridiculous.

Yeah except I went into the Apple Store, they ran the diagnostic testing and deemed nothing wrong. They checked the logs in the phone and found nothing wrong. They said it was a software issue on their end with no guaranteed fix. Also said because it wasn’t a hardware issue, the warranty doesn’t apply. The phone was purchased 4 months ago. I’m so angry!

spoke with Apple for 3 hours this far this morning…they had me do a factory restore which of course reset everything. PITA but I did it and it’s still doing it. The battery graph appears new because of the restore. I’m losing my mind! It went from 54% to 10% in about an hour and I wasn’t even doing anything.

Look at my battery health screenshots that I posted here prior icehockeydad - I had the SAME issue just after upgrading the IOS. I took the phone in and they tested the device and said there was no hardware issues and told me to do a reset all settings on the phone and that did not work. Came home multiple calls to Apple support they did the same things and we even did a hard reset back to factory restore - nothing. Finally they sent me a new phone even though I did not have AppleCare and told me to transfer my data from my cloud to the new phone and no more issues. I’ll post another one here.
