My iMac just was fixed Saturday and my finder icon was not showing after I got it back. Here is what my dock looks like.
Also if I go to the resources folder in dock and find finder.png and finder@2.png, they're there.

the first thing i would try is relaunching finder. go to Apple Menu > Force Quit, then select Finder and click on Relaunch.
then if that didn't work, you can try restarting the dock with terminal. (i see in your screenshot that terminal is open so forgive me if you already tried this next step). go into terminal and enter this command:
killall Dock

ok. there is one more terminal command you can try.
defaults delete com.apple.dock; killall Dock
understand that this will reset and restart your dock. you will need to reorganize your dock icons, and add or remove any icons to get it back to how it was prior to resetting it. and if that command doesn't help, then your final option may be that you will need to use recovery to reinstall your macOS.
actually, i think i would also try booting into safe mode before giving up and reinstalling macOS. if the finder icon reappears in safe mode, run the mac in safe mode for about 10 minutes and then restart normally. sometimes a safe boot followed by a normal boot can help solve certain issues.
Thank you! I went ahead of myself. I checked and the finder icon were named finder.icns, so I changed them back to finder.png. I also changed the macOS finder icon! (to the rectangle finder icon)
did you try the terminal command i recommended today to reset and restart the dock? if that command doesn't help and safe mode also doesn't help, then i think reinstalling macOS will be the last thing to do.
I am sorry but I tried to force quit finder, but it didn't do anything and I used the terminal commands "killall Dock", "killall Finder", and "killall Dock && killall Finder". They do not work. I just really don't want to reset my Mac using macOS recovery.

excellent work! but, do you mind if i ask, how did you manage to change the finder icon? i've had no luck with that, and it sticks out like a sore thumb along side of my custom app icons on my dock.
