cannot use ethernet & wifi connection simultaneously

Wondering if anyone can help with this one as it's been driving me nuts. If I have the wifi on and an ethernet cord connected, my connection dies. If I use just the ethernet or just the wifi, my connection is fine.

Ideally wouldn't want to keep having to turn my wifi on every time I disconnect from the dock on my desk with the ethernet plugged in, and similarly turn it back off when I want to sit down at my desk and plug it into the dock to get the faster speeds and stability afforded by ethernet.

If anyone could help me out here I'd really appreciate it. thanks!

I have both WiFi and wired ethernet active on two different Macs, one an iMac, the other a MacBook Pro that connects via an OWC dock.

I am wondering about your dock. What type of dock is it, and how are the connections to it made?

Do you have an ethernet-to-USB-C adaptor so you can connect ethernet to your Mac not through the dock? When you do this, unplug everything from the dock and make sure it is powered off. See if WiFi and ethernet together are both ok when ethernet is connected to your Mac without the dock powered on.

Another thing to try: bring another device that is on WiFi and place it right next to the dock when you are using the dock with ethernet on your Mac. This is to test that the dock itself is not generating RF interference that might degrade the WiFi signal.
