M! Mac Mini HDMI does not provide a signal

I have been happily using my M1 Mini with an external monitor connected via USB-C. No problems. But when I recently tried connecting a second monitor via the HDMI port, that second monitor says "No Signal". When I look at Displays in System Prefs, I see the second monitor and supposedly can set it to extend or mirror the main display. Only problem is that there is nothing showing on the second display. So it seems the Mini can detect that a second monitor is present even though no signal is getting through.

Tried the second monitor using USB-C - works fine. Tried using HDMI from a different computer to the second monitor - also fine. Tried connecting my primary display via HDMI (it has HDMI and USB-C ports). "no signal".

Am I right in thinking this points to a problem with my Mini's HDMI port? Is there a way to check this before going the repair route?

Thanks

Using 12.2.1.

Cable is 1 meter, certified 4K.

Both monitors accept USB-C and HDMI inputs; USB-C works with both, HDMI works with neither.

I'm getting another HDMI cable and I'll try that. How to sort them out when everyone claims to be "certified?"

Not all cables are certified!

If the package does not have these markings, it is not certified:

And for 4K you should be using the UltraHighSpeed certified.

”on a monitor with your PS3, PS4, XBOX ONE, Wii or Nintendo Switch etc”

- Apple isn’t mentioned. I would return it and find a regular monitor with DisplayPort and connect it as secondary using a dongle. Avoid all USB C monitors, nothing but trouble. In the meanwhile, use in single-monitor configuration only, with the Lenovo connected to the mini’s HDMI port. All the best.
