Ever since I upgraded to MacOS Monterey, I don't see a lot of preview images when I go to change my desktop's background. Sometimes I see the images in the folders I selected, but usually I just see a stand-in image marked "Jpeg." Is there any way I can fix this?

Try booting to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

A lot of times just boot to Safe Mode followed by normal boot resolves problems.
I will try it myself later when I find my USB keyboard. My bluetooth will not connect fast enough to enter Safe Mode.

In bottom right of the Desktop tab there is a + sign where you can add file locations that contain images.. Here is my Desktop preference pane.Note that some of the Apple images have a cloud icon. For those you have to click on the cloud icon to download the image.
What happens when you click on one of the JPG files?
If you go to the same folder using Finder do thumb nails show?
What app or device created the JPEGs?
I actually have added file locations, but the problem is that the images aren't appearing as such in those folders. This is what almost every folder looks like for me (I blocked out the folder names for privacy).
When I click on the files, the image appears as my desktop image. I just would prefer to see previews of the images so I know exactly which one I'm selecting.
The thumbnails do show up in the original folders.
Most of the files are actually PNGs, created with GraphicConverter 11.
I added the folder for my Desktop which contains .pngs and in System Preferences>Desktop and screensaver>Desktop if only showed icons w/JPEG icon just like yours.even though they were pngs.
It also messed up the preview window.
OK, so it isn't just me who has this problem.
This seems to be something that Apple will need to fix with an update.
Nope, I tried the safe boot and it didn't help. Any other ideas?
