i’m receiving lots of spam emails on the daily but the recipient’s email isn’t even mine? (and it doesn’t actually exist either)

i keep getting spam emails in my inboxes but they’re never actually addressed to either of my email addresses and it’s not a variation of them either. i pulled up the email domain’s website to check if the recipient’s email address exists but it’s not registered. i’ve hidden my email, blocked every sender and keep moving the emails to junk but they keep coming back. today i had to do the whole procedure for 22 (!!) emails. please someone help me, i’m so frustrated and annoyed by this.

ps.: i think it started some time after updating to ios 15.

iPhone 11, iOS 15

Someone with your email address leaked it somehow and you are on a list for sale to spammers on the web.

If you never normally get mail via a bcc then you can set up rules in most decent email provider's web account to junk any mail without your address in the to: field. Look for mail rules.

You just have to scan the junk folder for good mail. Some allow you to whitelist the mail from your contacts only or from a list.

IOS version has no impact on spam unless a third party app is being used to block it and the app developer is behind with testing and updates.

The sender is able to spoof the sender snd the receiver address,

Tap on the to: address and expand it. It must be yours unless your email provider has lost touch with reality.

i only mentioned the ios version because i’ve heard from multiple people that they’ve been receiving spam mails ever since they updated to ios 15 so i thought it might be related.

as for the other thing you mentioned, that would make sense if it was MY email address that’s being bombarded with spam, but it’s not. these emails are sent to my inbox, yes, but to an email i don’t even have, an email that doesn’t exist in the first place. i’ve checked. thanks for your reply though!

i didn’t say it has an impact on the spam itself, just that it might have something to do with that. maybe i’m wrong, maybe i’m right.

i'm aware of how to see both the sender’s and recipient’s email address and the latter clearly doesn’t belong to me. (mine is a*****96, the one being used is n*****.***). and still, the email address being spammed doesn’t even actually exist which is all the more confusing.

I agree with you about the emails. I am getting slammed with all of these emails that I would expect to see in my junk folder. I’m sure it started with the iOS 15. I am constantly having them blocked and sent to junk. They have done something to the iOS 15 that has opened the door to this problem. . I never used to get this stuff directly into my email box. It’s very frustrating.
