Touch Id - Adding a new fingerprint on Macbook Pro does not work

When I try to add a new fingerprint nothing happens. I followed all the instructions I found, but it does not work - even formatted my Macbook Pro.

Any ideas out there?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.1

Old issue, new issue, what changed...?

What exact Mac?

On an Intel Mac you can try both—

resetting the SMC How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

resetting NVRAM/PRAM Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

(get at least two-three rounds of the chimes when holding the NRAM Reset)

On an M1 Mac—equivalent Shut down, close the lid 30 secs+ , reboot as normal.

If no resolve try SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support to sort anomalies.
