Touch ID button don't work when I press it

Hi, I have a MacBook Air 10 and its Touch ID button doesn't work when I press it. Touch ID works very well but there is no reaction when I press the button. for example for unlocking the screen that doesn't work.

It that a hardware problem?

If you want to use the Touch ID button to shut down your Mac, it requires a firm, sustained press. Conversely, if you are using it to authenticate, use a light touch. Somewhere between those two extremes, it won't be recognized.
