The price you finally pay will be adjusted. Once they receive your old Mac it will be checked and if the value is different from what was quoted you will be notified to accept or reject. Apple will send you packing material and they note you have a limited time to return your current Mac. I would make a TM backup and use that to migrate to your new Mac so timing will not be an issue.

I would strongly recommend that you follow the process in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant - Apple Community if you want your migration to go quickly and smoothly. Using another variation may or may not work, using the process as explained is the quickest and most reliable method.
How does apple know to adjust the purchase price, since the purchase and the trade-in are two separate transactions?

Yeah, I thought it was the same transaction too... but also this time I'm ordering on the UK site for an employee. I'm usually ordering off the US site.
I am intending to buy the imac 24" desk top. I am trading in my Macbook Air and received an email value for my trade in. Can I waIt to send my trade in until I receive the imac so I can transfer info from my macbook air to the imac.
