my iphone got wet. It will not turn on. I have purchased a new phone and need to transfer the information.

I bought a new iPhone. Before I received it though, my old iphone (a 6S) got soaked by water. The screen is broken which probably did not help. Is there a way to back it up without turning on, because it won't turn on. I do have an iPad, which shares my photos and other information with the iPhone. Does it matter if I have backed up the iPhone first?

No, there is no way to backup any electronic device that will not power on and take input commands. Sorry, but you’ll have to use a past iCloud or iTunes backup, or set the device up without a backup.

Data you synchronize with iCloud will sync to the new device when you sign into your cloud account (e.g. sync’d contacts, notes, photos if you use iCloud photos, …).
