MacBook suddenly doesn't recognize iPad. Help please!

Hi, I'm new to Apple so still unfamiliar with the devices. Perhaps anybody here can help. I'm trying to bypass passcode an iPad air by using recovery mode. I've followed the instructions and connect my iPad to my MacBook. At first I was able to click restore and download software, but after several minutes my iPad exit recovery mode and the download bar disappeared. I turned off the iPad and tried to enter recovery mode again, but then my MacBook won't recognize the iPad.

When I turned on the iPad it says on the screen "unlock the iPad to use USB accessories". So that means the MacBook recognize the iPad on normal mode but not on recovery mode? How is this possible?

I tried to connect the iPad to my Surface but iTunes can't detect the iPad either (on recovery mode).

Anyone can help please? I really need to restore the iPad. Thank you!

Hello Gwalk01,

Thanks for your post to Apple Support Communities. We understand you are trying to restore an iPad to reset the passcode and it didn't work the first time. When you tried to boot the iPad into recovery mode again, did you have it still connected to the Mac?

You will need to force restart it while connected:

For an iPad with a Home button, press and hold both the Home button and the top button until you see the Apple logo.

You may also need to disconnect it, restart the MacBook, then connect it and try to boot it into recovery mode again. Do you recall if this iPad has ever been connected or synced to this MacBook? Are you able to force restart the iPad without it being connected to the Mac?

Also make sure the MacBook is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. If it's taking more than 15 minutes to download the iPadOS software to restore it, the iPad will exit recovery mode and you'll need to start again.

Let us know how it goes.

Best regards.
