Movie not downloading

I just rented a movie on Apple TV to watch on a plane, but it will not download

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

Hello EmilyMLR, Did you press the cloud download icon so you could download to your iPhone or iPad and watch Offline on the plane? See this apple support page.
