What is the SystemUIServer? Never noticed it before, but I see that it's slowly eating up all my active memory. Is it related to my VPN? Registered usage goes up when I interrogate VPN settings. Many thanks in advance.

SystemUIServer is a normal Apple Process. After inspection this process from Activity Monitor >> View >> View ALL processes this is what my machine is showing as Open files >>

As for VPN and this will get a lot of reaction for and against the usage of VPNs.
Commercial VPNs should only be used if Mandated by Corporate Head Office for working remotely. Otherwise - ones Privacy and Security touted by the VPN is suspect.
Do you have any third-party menu extras (right side of menu bar). One of the things SystemUIServer does is display all of the System User Interface items. The only reason I could see it continuing to use memory is if some third-party menu extra or other part of the UI is constantly changing.
