Hard drive keeps ejecting itself

When I'm actively using my laptop and accessing files from my external hard drive it will unmount itself at random times. Not sure why its happening while its currently in use. Any advice is appreciated!

This is a classic example of a failing drive. The solution would be to replace it

You can always try a different port, a different cable, a different enclosure.

If the data on that drive is of value to you, then I would verify you have another copy.

3-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite.
