AirPods 3 Still Says Owner Is Able to See Their Location

I purchased a set of AirPods 3 from Apple via their website. I let a friend of mine who was in town use them first (which seems to have been a bad idea). Now when I pair them with my phone it constantly pops up that they are still under my friends account. They have already selected the "forget this device" option under bluetooth from their phone.

I've tried factory resetting the AirPods (holding the back button for 15 seconds), but I never get the flash of lights like I'd expect after the full 15 seconds.

What else do I need to do?

According to your description, your AirPods 3 is bound to a friend before getting it, which means that your AirPods have logged in to his account. To solve this problem, long-pressing the back button is invalid. You can only contact your friend, ask him to remove your AirPods from his iCloud account in the Find My app, and then reset your headphones again (press the back button for more than 15 seconds until the indicator light flashes white) and connect Connect to your device, and the above problems will not occur again at this time.I hope my answer is helpful to you!
