Why does my right AirPod cut out after a few minutes when both AirPods are in-ear?

I've had my AirPods for ~2 years now and have noticed that when using both pods in-ear, the right AirPods cuts out after just a few minutes. The left AirPod stays connected during this time. I've tried resetting the AirPods (disconnecting from my iPhone and reconnecting) and the case/AirPods are fully charged.

Hello there aiches22,

Thanks for posting here on the Apple Support Communities! This is a place where other Apple users can submit questions or respond to others to help lend a hand. Let's take a closer look as we do our best to provide some additional insight.

We understand one of your AirPods is disconnecting intermittently. You already did a great job trying to reset them! Next, does the same thing happen if you test them with another audio source at all?

The reason we ask is if the same thing happens with another device, and after trying the rest of these steps here: If the sound from your wireless headphones cuts out or is distorted then your AirPods may require service.

We hope this helps get you pointed in the right direction.

Take care.

Hi barberlives123,

I only connect my AirPods to two devices, my iPhone where I've experienced the worst symptoms and my MacBook Pro. Today I used my AirPods on my iPhone listening to Spotify (both AirPods were in). I did not experience any cuts/distortion in audio for roughly 30 minutes. When using the Zoom application on my device for a conference call, after just 30 seconds, my audio cut out in both AirPods.

On my MacBook Pro, I only used the left AirPod and never had it cut out after using for 1 hour.

With these being 2+ years old, is it possible that they are just "going bad" or the battery is wearing? I will say that after the audio cutting out, I place the AirPods back into the case and keep the lid open and I notice that they will not automatically connect. I then will close the case and will leave them disconnected for a while and when I come back to use them, they will connect. Just seems very intermittent and odd.

What kind of service is recommended/required? And what kind of cost would I be looking at considering my AirPods are on the older side?

Thank you for your reply!
