Fax device not showing up for Epson printer

I have a Epson WF-2760 multifunction printer with fax capabilities. The printer is discovered as a Bonjour Multifunction printer.

In versions of macOS before Monterey, adding the printer using AirPrint would create both a printer/scanner device and a fax device. In Monterey, the fax device no longer appears. Half way through the printer addition process there is an error to the effect of "can't communicate with the printer", and only the printer/scanner appears.

In order to get fax capabilities I have to install Epson drivers and use the Epson IP device, not the Bonjour Multifunction device. This happens on both of my Mac minis (a 2014 Intel and a 2020 M1).

Has anyone else seen this or know of another workaround to get the Bonjour fax back?

Try booting to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

A lot of times just boot to Safe Mode followed by normal boot resolves problems.

Before going to Safe Mode I would reset the printing system, and after restarting from Safe Mode readd the printer.

I'm not seeing the problem when using a vendor driver. The problem exists when using AirPrint (no vendor driver). This worked fine under Big Sur. The only way to get it working on Monterey is to install Epson drivers.

Download and run the free xGO64 app. It will show you all of the apps that are all 32 bit or have some 32 bit components. This can tell you if the fax portion of your printer drive is 32 bit or not. If it's 32 big you'll probably have to try another fax method.

No change. Printer setup still errors out after configuring the printer/scanner and while it appears to be looking for the printer's fax device.
