How do I stop CarPlay from automatically reading my texts aloud?

I like having the option to answer an incoming call on CarPlay, and having the option to have a text read aloud. But I do not want my texts automatically read aloud. How do I stop this from happening without turning off CarPlay altogether?

You have turn Announce Notifications to OFF.

On your iPhone, You can disable Announce Messages in CarPlay by following these steps.

  1. Launch Settings and go to Siri & Search.
  2. Tap on Announce Notifications option.
  3. Go to CarPlay and turn Off the toggle for Announce Messages.

This doesn’t work—I don’t use Siri so it is not turned on at all on my phone anyway. Also when I got to CarPlay, there are no toggle buttons next to the apps, only horizontal lines (that don’t do anything if you tap them)—except calendar, audiobooks and podcasts which I can opt to block from CarPlay.

Any other solutions other than turning off CarPlay completely?
