Update carrier settings not working

I have 2 different MNVO carriers that run on t mobile network . Both ask for a carrier update but when I click update, nothing happens .. I’ve tried all possible troubleshooting steps I can think of - reset network settings, reset all settings, re insert SIM card.

my iPhone 12 doesn’t have a 5G option yet and I suspect it’s because these carrier updates need to take place first. My plans with my carriers include 5G but my phone only has 4G/LTE options..

Has anyone ran into this problem? Please help!
