How do I rename the Magic Keyboard with macOS Monterey?
As the previous thread to this topic is closed, I offer my solution here:
As I recieved my Magic Keyboard (I change them according to the Language I am writing), I immediately started charging it. Doing so disables the following rename routine. Make sure your keyboard is not connected to a charging lead.
- Under System Preferences select Bluetooth and if 'Off' click on 'Turn Bluetooth On' and wait a few moments for the device list under 'Devices' to populate
- Under Devices find the keybaord you wish to rename (comes as 'Magic Keyboard' as delivered and right click on it.
- You will see three choices: 'Rename', 'Disconnect' and 'Remove'. Select 'Rename'
- In the Rename Device panel which appears overwrite the existing name with the name of your choice
- Click on 'Rename' and close the underlying Bluetooth preference panel.
I was led to remove the charging cable, because when attached to the keyboad steps 2. and 3. above were not permitted. I noticed that with other Bluetooth devices (which were not attached to a charging cable) steps 2. and 3. above were permitted.
I hope this helps.
