How do I rename the Magic Keyboard with macOS Monterey?

As the previous thread to this topic is closed, I offer my solution here:

As I recieved my Magic Keyboard (I change them according to the Language I am writing), I immediately started charging it. Doing so disables the following rename routine. Make sure your keyboard is not connected to a charging lead.

  1. Under System Preferences select Bluetooth and if 'Off' click on 'Turn Bluetooth On' and wait a few moments for the device list under 'Devices' to populate
  2. Under Devices find the keybaord you wish to rename (comes as 'Magic Keyboard' as delivered and right click on it.
  3. You will see three choices: 'Rename', 'Disconnect' and 'Remove'. Select 'Rename'
  4. In the Rename Device panel which appears overwrite the existing name with the name of your choice
  5. Click on 'Rename' and close the underlying Bluetooth preference panel.

I was led to remove the charging cable, because when attached to the keyboad steps 2. and 3. above were not permitted. I noticed that with other Bluetooth devices (which were not attached to a charging cable) steps 2. and 3. above were permitted.

I hope this helps.
