how to delete / remove safari links from home screen

quick answer - turn off screen time

For years I’ve been trying to figure out how to remove my safari “add to home screen” links from my home screen. After dealing with Apple support, both tier 1 and 2, having no luck and getting disconnected, my patience was waning. Armed with a case ID number, i called again figuring I’d go straight to tier 2. The sweet tier 1 support agent (Alaia) i guess wanted to be a hero so i checked myself and my patience and let her do her thing figuring I’d be transferred to 2nd tier soon. Alaia comes back after 5-10 mins and asks a few questions. She then directs me to, Settings then Screen Time. Tells me to turn off screen time. Screen Time??? Really??? So i do it. She then asks me to try and delete the link again. 😮😮😮 IT WORKS!!!

Alaia belongs in tier 10!!! Many tier 2 support agents couldn't help me. I needed to share this because i know a lot of users are at a loss because of this issue.

Just to be clear the specific option to turn off is Settings->Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions -> iTunes & App Store Purchases -> Deleting Apps

If set to "Don't Allow" it will prevent Home Screen bookmarks from being deleted along with Apps.

It's weird and not surprised Apple support did not immediately think about that.

Turning off Screen Time entirely will turn off that option as well.
