If you right click on the message you can select Move to Junk. After a while Mail is supposed to learn that that type message should automatically go to the Junk folder.
You can set up Rules in Mail Preferences>Rules to direct messages with specific attributes to go to your Junk folder.
Use rules to manage emails you receive in Mail on Mac ...
All Mail can do is send to Junk. You can set up to automatically trash Jun messages. It can't and should not "block" them since if the Mail bounced the message that could indicate to spammers that it is a valid email address.

thanks for the tip, I'll see what items the "rules" key in on, e.g., specific send e-mail address or I can use * or ? in part of the email address to block a class of emails, e.g., send to junk mails from "username@domainname.domain" by specifying "*@domainname.domain", thus blocking all emails from all senders using a common domain name and domain.
Perfectly right, thanks for the correction. I meant to say "...thus sending all emails from senders using a common domain name and domain directly to spam (junk) folder .", instead of "block". The implied question was if the suggested notation in the rule "*@domainname.domain" will do that for the common domain name and domain, regardless of the username in the sender's address. I get many junk emails from the same domain name and domain but with different user names (a typical spammer technique). I don't know what algorithms are used by Mac Mail to "learn" what emails should be directed to the junk folder over time but would like to accelerate that learning process by specifying the rule.
Blocking email is somewhat misleading. All it will do is send that email to junk.
