Getting back to main menu

Hello everyone,

I am confused on how to quickly change and get back to my main menu for music options like Genres, albums, playlists etc.

For example if I am playing a track on an album but want to change it to look at my genres I try..

Stopping the song I'm on

Swipe right

Swipe up

Swipe down

The responses to the above show lots of stuff but no easy access to the main music menu so I shut down the device.

As I can't seem to get there I end up powering-off then powering back on, this works but I feel it should be easier than that.

I can't figure what the logical steps are on the programs...

Any help will be much appreciated - this is my only Apple device so I guess I am a rookie on this stuff...

Many thanks if you can help

Papa-Roy

I have a 6th generation iPod Touch, so if you have that or a 7th generation one, then the menu system should be the same or very similar. For older models, the menu system may be slightly different, but essentially it should be a simple matter of looking at what is on the current screen and following the logical thing to do. There is no quick route back to the Main Menu. If you're in a sub-menu, you have to go back through each menu to reach the main library menu.

So, on the 6th generation model, there are basically two types of menu:

  1. a section menu (artists, albums, playlists, songs and genres. You may have additional items on your list, according to the way your iPod is set up)
  2. the Now Playing screen

  • If you are in one of the section menus, such as a specific genre, album or an artist in the Artist menu etc., then there should be an arrow in the top left corner of the screen and the name of the section that you are currently in. Tap the arrow to go back one menu. If you see a similar arrow and word on the new screen, then tap the back arrow again. Once you see the large text Library at the top of the screen and the library sections listed below, then you are on the main Library menu
  • If a song is playing while you are in any of the section menus or on the Main Library menu, there will be a Now Playing ribbon at the bottom of the screen, showing the artwork for the song, along with the song title, the Pause icon and the Forward arrow. Tap on the Now Playing ribbon to open the full size Now Playing screen
  • If the full Now Playing screen is displayed, there is an arrow at the top of the panel, below that is the artwork for the song that's playing, along with the Play controls. To get out of that screen, either tap the arrow at the top of the screen or simply drag the screen downwards.
  • Note that if you are on the Now playing screen, you can drag it upwards and reveal additional controls, as well as the Up Next list.
