Organizing photos on my mac so that I can free storage space on my iphone, I want to make sure that if I delete photos off my phone, they will stay on my mac

I still want my phone to be connected to my mac via iCloud so that all the pictures I take on my phone are automatically on my mac. But I want to be able to delete photos off my phone and have them stay on my mac. Please let me know!
