magic keyboard fn key not working for switching languages when MBP lid is closed and connected to the monitor

Have same issue on same hardware but external monitor connected via usb-c.

Some details: if close macbook lid before macos loaded - Fn key on external keyboard do change language, but if open lid after macos loaded and then close lid - Fn key on external keyboard stops change language (other Fn key functions worked fine).

This issue appeared on macos 12.2.1 (21D62).

On macos 12.1 and before - no this issue.

Wanted to update that I noticed that restarting the Mac WHILE the lid is closed and the Mac is connected to the external display seems to solve the issue and the function button works normally and changes languages.

HOWEVER, as soon as the lid is opened and closed again, the problem returns.

Hopefully Apple will fix this issue soon, it's. been a while...

I found out, that it actually works, with bugs. But like this - press really fast 2 times (sometimes several times) and it will be a language button. And as default it works like a FN button for fn + F Keys, for example fn+F12 in browser - HTML code window. If you press just F12 alone, then F12 will work as "Volume UP" button.

Same. Bug started in 12.3. 'fn' key on external keyboard does not work for switching languages when M1 MacBook Air lid is closed and connected to external monitor.

Do you have the same problem using the traditional Control Space keyboard switching shortcut?

Magic Keyboard with touchID

external monitor connected either via USB-C or HDMi, doesn't matter.

If the lid is closed, the globe button doesn't work for changing languages or using function keys.

However, it seems to work at certain points. If I tap the button repeatedly many times, the language changes. Then it goes back to not responding.

As soon as I open the lid it starts working properly again.

There have been various reports of such behavior by Fn, best to report to Apple via the link given earlier.

This is an issue which exists since 2020 started with M1 MacBooks and now it covers the whole Apple Silicon line as well as the new Magic Keyboard. It's 2022 now and Apple still hasn't addressed this issue. Very disappointing.

But i bought a keyboard for 200 dollars, and it doesn't work as well. So sad.

Unfortunately this problem still exists on macOS 12.3.1 (21E258).

No. Switching languages with the keyboard shortcut works normally. Only the function button is problematic.
